Parallels Tools can not be installed: the error [6001] caused by InstallShield.

Symptoms

The following error message appears during the Parallels Tools installation in Windows Guest OS:


"Setup has experienced an error. Please do the following: close any running programs, empty your temporary folder, check your internet connection, then try to run setup again. Error code -6001".

Cause

Corrupted InstallShield files.

Resolution

1. Open My Computer and browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime.


2. Find the folder under the name of "10".

3. Rename this folder in order to restore it if required. Do not delete the folder permanently until you successfully install Parallels Tools.

4. After that start Parallels Tools installation again (Actions menu -> Install Parallels Tools...).
